El día de los muertos

In Mexican culture people are getting close and personal with death, almost like with a reliable old friend. Therefore the series of skeleton paintings appear friendly and intimate, almost inviting. Creepy, bony yet attractive and beautiful - can a skeleton be appealing? La Catrina is referred to as the death. I decorated her with flowers and a dress, almost inviting the viewer for a date. The poems Mexicans write to their beloved - called calaveritas are written in a a light and humoristic way- dead is not a reason to be sad or be afraid of- it is simply a part that belongs to our life.
